New Zealand online advertising spend increased by almost half to $193.2 million in the 2008 calendar year, with search and directories comprising about a third of overall spend.
The Interactive Advertising Bureau of New Zealand’s Insight Report for 2008, compiled in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers, revealed the interactive advertising market grew by 43% as advertisers begin to shift budgets to more accountable media. Search and directories grew by 75% to $59.7 million and display was up 38% to $58.1 million. The classified market grew 28% to $75.3 million, but its share of total spend dropped from 44% to 39%.
Travel and accommodation and government departments were the biggest growth sectors, while investment finance and banking fell by 2.3%.
