About Snap-on Tools
Snap-on Tools

A Snap-on Tools franchise is a UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY to own your own business, built on a sound foundation of almost 90 years of experience. Snap-on franchisees are independent business people, controlling all aspects of their franchise and working flexible hours as needed to accomplish their personal goals. A Snap-on Franchise is WITHIN YOUR REACH!

Snap-on was a finalist in the FCA ‘Australian Retail Franchisor of the Year Awards in both 2007 and 2008.  The Financial Review Smart Investor magazine selected Snap-on as one of the top franchise opportunities in Australia in their surveys in both 2006 and 2008.

These home based franchisees retail the world’s best tools and diagnostic equipment from brilliantly equipped, air-conditioned mobile stores, and may progress to run several mobile stores in a white collar role, turning over millions

How does the system work?
Snap-on wholesales the tools and equipment to franchisees who on-sell - business to business.  Franchisees build relationships with their customers by calling on them weekly, and with more than 19,000 products available the Snap-on franchisee becomes a solution provider to their customers.  The Snap-on franchisee becomes virtually the one stop shop for all of their customers’ tool and equipment needs.  Franchisees offer their customers a number of finance options to assist sales and the options include the Snap-on Trade Card, which is a store card finance programme offered through Snap-on.  The mobile stores are equipped with computers, wireless Internet connections and custom software. A mobile EFTPOS machine and flat screen monitor for DVDs are also part of the package.  This is a highly sophisticated and well tried business model developed over decades.

Why mobile?
Being a mobile franchisee gives you many benefits including no commercial premises lease or outgoings associated with fixed premises. Instead of waiting for customers to come to them, Snap-on franchisees go to their customers right at their place of work.

Where do customers come from?
Franchisees of this home based franchise are provided with a database of potential customers within a geographically bounded territory that has been surveyed by Snap-on.  The Snap-on brand is iconic within the tool-using industry and is assured to be welcome amongst this community. In addition, Snap-on invest some USD50 million per annum on R&D so the range of products is ever expanding so repeat custom is a given.

How strong is the brand?
NASA uses Snap-on tools in space and F-1 crews use Snap-on tools in pit lane. Snap-on is a brand that defines ‘quality’ and is the brand of choice for professional trades people who demand the best. Snap-on is the benchmark for high quality innovative tools and equipment that are made to meet the extensive demands of the professional tool user..

How much does it cost?
$40,000 in fees, training, etc, includes all the expenses of attending the Snap-on Training Centre in Dallas, Texas, USA as well as additional home based training.  Also included are a laptop computer and associated hardware and software together with uniforms.  In addition to this amount you will need finance for inventory and working capital.  The specially built mobile stores are leased and therefore not a capital expense. ANZ lends up to 60% of costs on the strength of the franchise under their Franchise Programme. Snap-on Tools does not charge royalties based on turnover or charge an advertising levy. A minimal management fee (around $100 per week) covers extensive support services.

How much will you make?

Suffice to say that Fortune magazine describes a Snap-on ‘truck’ as one of the most efficient retail spaces in the world. The Australian Financial Review ‘Smart Investor’ magazine named Snap-on as one of Australia’s top seven franchises for return on investment in 2006 and the same magazine selected Snap-on as one of the top nine best value Australian franchise systems in 2008.

Is it family friendly?

Snap-on mobile franchisees basically work trade hours plus administration.  The mobile store is kept at the franchisee’s home which makes the business conducive to family involvement. Snap-on encourages family involvement in the support of the franchise.

Training and support?
Ongoing throughout the term of the franchise, however initial training begins with travelling to Dallas, Texas, for a six day study course at the Snap-on Training Centre. Ongoing support is provided by your own Sales Development Manager, Business Manager and the extensive support team at the Snap-on National Distribution Centre in Sydney.
